Congress of Ingush Muslims joins political struggle for republic's borders

Against the background of a sharp conflict with Yunus-Bek Evkurov, the Ingush clergy has supported the political demands of the Ingush opposition to cancel the agreement on the border with Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 27, the Constitutional Court of Russia concluded its hearings on the border issue. The decision will be made behind closed doors. On the same day, participants of a rally in Nazran demanded to cancel the border agreement and dismiss Ingush leader Yunus-Bek Evkurov.

The Congress of Ingush Muslims, organized by the Republic's Muslims' Spiritual Centre (Muftiate), was held on December 1 in the mosque of the Gamurzievo administrative district.

Among other issues, the Congress discussed "one of the most important issues of the Ingush society" – the problem of the transfer of Ingush lands to Chechnya, says the message of the press service of the Muftiate. The delegate Akhmad Barakhoev told the Congress about the political situation in Ingushetia regarding this issue, after which he urged the delegates to address the Russian president and the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov. In his appeal to Mr Putin, he called for raising the issue of preserving the territorial integrity of Ingushetia, while in his address to Kadyrov – the need to cancel the border agreement in order to preserve the unity of the two nations.

The Congress delegates have supported all the Barakhoev's proposals.

The Congress has ruled to treat the agreement signed by Evkurov and Kadyrov as "inconsistent with the interests of the Muslims of the republic and the entire Ingush people," says the resolution of the Congress, as the agreement kindles the interethnic enmity "of the two fraternal nations."
