Raising funds for Syrian returnees in Ramadan reminds about Circassian values

The money raised in Kabardino-Balkaria for students and repatriates from Syria was spent to purchase food for the holiday of Eid al-Fitr. Residents of Adygea, Karachay-Cherkessia, and Kabardino-Balkaria actively support Syrian returnees, since helping those in need is part of the Adyg culture, note scientists and journalists.

The raised money was spent to buy food for Syrian students and repatriates from Syria, reported Ratmir Karov, an organizer of the fund raising, and activist of the NGO "Circassian Renaissance". According to him, 50 students and other repatriates in need got assistance.

Actions to raise funds for coming compatriots are held regularly in the Kabardino-Balkarian republic.

In general, according to Ratmir Karov, in Kabardino-Balkaria, Syrian repatriates have two main problems: learning the Russian language and getting documents.

According to him, every resident of Kabardino-Balkaria tries to help Syrian returnees.

The majority of repatriates from Syria who came to Karachay-Cherkessia are provided with housing, including due to the help of republic's residents, said journalist Amar Zhuzhuev.

When in 2009, the first migrants from Syria arrived in Adygea, local residents actively participated in their adaptation, noted Asker Sokht, the deputy chair of the public organization "Adyge Khase" in the Krasnodar Territory. According to him, residents raised funds, bought food and building materials for refugees.

Asker Sokht has also added that Syrian migrants are now fully adapted to life in the republic.

Asfar Kuek, a member of the Union of Circassian Organizations of the Russian Federation, has noted that the system of mutual assistance has historically been part of the Adyg culture.
