Chechen authorities evicted about 20 people from hostels in three days

The campaign, initiated by Ramzan Kadyrov, resulted in the eviction of about 20 people from hostels; several dozen other tenants should leave their rooms in the coming days, the office of the head of Chechnya has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at a meeting in Grozny held on October 15, Ramzan Kadyrov demanded from officials to inspect the dormitories of the Chechen capital and exclude from the lists of those in need of housing the people who do not have the right to live in dormitories. The leader of Chechnya said that out of 20,000 people who waited for housing in Grozny, 19,800 were fraudsters who wanted to get apartments for free. On the other day, inspections had been launched in the dormitories of Grozny.

The hostels are being checked for only a few days, but numerous violations have already been found, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the Grozny Mayoralty. "First of all, it concerns the people, who have their own housing, mainly in rural areas, but, nevertheless, continue occupying rooms in hostels," a Mayoralty source has stated, adding that even those, who had already received apartments, where among hostel tenants.

All these people are evicted, but no one remains in the street, said a source from the apparatus of the head and the government of Chechnya.

In their turn, tenants state that they are forced to move to their relatives. "I've lived in the hostel for more than nine years; I had a tenancy agreement and was listed for receiving housing. Now, they demand from me to move out, claiming that my uncle has a house in the village, where he lives with his family; and they agree to provide me with a room. Of course, he's my uncle, but why should I create problems for him and his family?" Zara, a resident of the Grozny District, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
