Residents of Grozny criticize results of million-rouble expenses for city improvement

In the centre of Grozny, builders have completed the reconstruction of yard areas and are to finish the improvement of streets till the 200th birthday of the city, the authorities reported. The construction works, which took 1.3 billion roubles only from extrabudgetary sources, are being conducted in a hurry, and that fact affects their quality, the local people complain.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since late June, in the central part of Grozny, there is large-scale improvement of streets and yard areas to be finished till the celebration of the 200th birthday of the city scheduled for October 5.

The reconstruction of yard areas in the central part of the city has been completed, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed today by an official from the Mayoralty of Grozny.

Markha, a woman from Grozny, believes the quality of the construction works is poor. "I should admit the changes are huge. But the quality of the works is not very impressive. For example, the facade of the house was painted, but very badly," the woman told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. She suggested that the builders had to hurry up to finish their work.

"My friend who works for the city administration has told me that the paving stones were brought from Rostov. The materials are of very high quality, and, correspondingly, they are expensive. The new paving stones are being laid almost everywhere in the centre to replace the old stones. However, in some places, the new pavement became even worse than it had been earlier. It's a pity they spent money for such works of poor quality," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Sultan, a resident of Grozny.
