Law enforcers prevent refugee from breaking into NKR

Azerbaijani law enforcers stopped the action "Returning Home", held near the troops contact line. A forced migrant, who wanted to return to his native Karabakh village, as well as his supporters, were detained at the border, activists have reported. The authorities of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) have treated the incident as a provocation.

Djamal Akhmedov, 66, a forced migrant from the village of Garvand of Agdam District, was the initiator of the action. By means of the Facebook, he invited other forced migrants to see him off to his native village in the NKR.

In his opinion, Azerbaijani and Armenian militaries have no right to prevent forced migrants from returning home. "For 26 years already, I can't return to my native village. It's my right. I realized that crossing the frontline could threaten my life, but I'm tired of living without homeland," said Akhmedov.

According to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), as of June 2018, the number of forced migrants in the country is 1.2 million.

Panakh Gusein, the leader of the People's Party, has condemned the law enforcers' actions. In his opinion, it was a peaceful action.

However, Senor Asratyan, the press secretary of the NKR's Ministry of Defence (MoD) called the participants of the action "misled people."

David Babayan, his colleague, the press secretary of the NKR's President, has treated the action as a provocation, the "Voice of Armenia" reports. He thinks that Azerbaijani politicians initiated the action.

Mr Babayan has added that forced migrants can return from Azerbaijan to the NKR only by changing their citizenship.
