Investigators suspect Ovik Abramyan and his brother of fraud

Ovik Abramyan, a Former Prime Minister of Armenia, his brother Genrikh Abramyan and Alik Sargsyan, a former head of the Armenian Police, are suspected of abuse of powers and committing a fraud; a criminal case has been opened, the Armenian Investigating Committee has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier Genrikh Abramyan had been accused of illegal purchase and storage of arms and ammunition.

The new case has been initiated on the basis of the application lodged by the director of the "Avazaatik" Mining Company. An investigation was conducted, which revealed that the above officials artificially obstructed the company's work, the press service of the Investigating Committee of Armenia has reported.

In particular, the "Avazaatik" had invested about 80,000 US dollars into mining activities in the Ararat District. But in 2008, high-ranking officials "demanded from the director to register 60% of the company's shares to the names of two persons, 30% of shares to each of them; while the contract with the owner of the land, where the company had started its work was nullified by the court," the press service of the Investigating Committee reports.

According to the testimonies of the director of the "Avazaatik" Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) and other witnesses, these high-ranking officials were Ovik Abramyan, a former Prime Minister of Armenia, his brother Genrikh Abramyan and Alik Sargsyan, a former head of the Armenian Police.

According to the information of the Investigating Committee, the criminal case has been sent to the Special Investigating Service.
