Beating up Chechen women in Kalmykia qualified as ethnically-based hooliganism

A resident of Kalmykia, accused of beating up Tabarik Dudaeva, a Chechen woman, was detained on suspicion of hooliganism based on ethnic hatred. What happened in Bolshoi Tsaryn is an isolated incident, members of the Chechen community in Kalmykia assert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Tabarik Dudaeva, a 46-year-old native of Chechnya, who lives in Kalmykia, claimed that on August 15 she was beaten up in the dwelling settlement of Bolshoi Tsaryn. Users of social networks from Chechnya demanded to investigate the incident; while many users from Kalmykia apologized for the actions of their fellow countrymen.

The charge with hooliganism based on ethnic hatred is presented to two Kalmyk men, suspected of beating up Dudaeva, the "Chechnya Today" writes referring to Roman Isaev, the representative of the Chechen leader in the Republic of Kalmykia.

Earlier, one of the accused men said that he regretted of what he had done, the "Kavkaz.Realii" reports. He apologized to Dudaeva and said that there was no "ethnic background", and the conflict happened just on domestic grounds.

Khamid Gatsaev, a representative of the Chechen socio-cultural association "Accord" (Bart) in the Oktiabrsky District, said that Bolshoi Tsaryn is inhabited by representatives of 48 nationalities; and there have never been conflicts based on ethnic hatreds among them.

In his turn, Umar Elzhurkaev, the head of the "Accord", complained that negative information triggers greater interest; therefore, the real picture of interethnic relations in the republic is distorted.
