Court leaves Manvel Grigoryan under arrest

Today, Manvel Grigoryan, a former member of the National Assembly of Armenia and the head of the "Yerkrapah Volunteer Union", has been left under arrest for other two months, his advocate reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 16, retired General Manvel Grigoryan, an MP from the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), was detained on suspicion of illegal arms trafficking. On June 17, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan claimed that Manvel Grigoryan had embezzled humanitarian aid for the army, and on June 20, during a search at the MP's house, law enforcers found ammunition, items of army foodstuff, and firearms. Manvel Grigoryan was taken into custody for two months. On August 10, the defence appealed against his arrest and stated that the Manvel Grigoryan's health "was deteriorating every day."

Today, the first instance court has extended the Manvel Grigoryan's arrest for other two months. An appropriate request was submitted by the Special Investigation Service of Armenia, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by advocate Levon Bagdasaryan.

Levon Bagdasaryan has announced that "the court's decision to extend the Manvel Grigoryan's arrest will be challenged at the highest court instance."
