In Stepanakert, prosecutors close case on a fight involving law enforcers

The Prosecutor's Office has closed the investigation into a criminal case on a fight, which triggered a mass protest in Stepanakert. The case was closed in connection with the reconciliation of the parties.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 1, in the course of the mass fight in Stepanakert, two local residents were beaten by law enforcers. On June 5, the General Prosecutor's Office reported that four persons were arrested in the case on the incident in Stepanakert and that two of the arrested suspects were agents of the National Security Service.

The Stepanakert incident provoked a rally demanding the resignation of the top-ranking law enforcers. On June 4, after Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had called on to let the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh fulfill the promises given to the protesters, the action was suspended. On June 6, the Chief of Police and the National Security Service of Nagorno-Karabakh and State Minister Araik Arutyunyan resigned.

The investigation into the case on the fight, which occurred in Stepanakert in early June, has been completed, Arthur Mosiyan, General Prosecutor of Nagorno-Karabakh, informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on August 15.

"The criminal case against the persons involved in the fight has been closed, since they pleaded guilty and went to reconciliation," Arthur Mosiyan stated.
