Marks in schools of Dagestan and Chechnya are most overstated in Russia

Dagestan and Chechnya are among the top three Russian regions with the largest number of schools, where overstated marks were found by the "Rosobrnadzor" (Russian Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science).

The "Rosobrnadzor" has analyzed the all-Russian examination tests written this year by five million schoolchildren from 40,500 schools located in all regions of the country. Signs of bias in the awarded marks were revealed in 3000 schools, the Service stated on August 15.

"The analysis has revealed the schools, in which the result of the tests turned out to be significantly higher than the average for the region. These schools are not lyceums or gymnasia with in-depth study of these subjects, and the obtained marks were not supported by high scores in the Unified State Examination (USE) among graduates," the website of the "Rosobrnadzor" explains. Besides, the schools, where pupils as a whole coped better with simple tasks than with complex ones, got under suspicion. In the opinion of the "Rosobrnadzor", this can mean that the pupils were helped.

According to the list of schools that were not objective in running the all-Russian tests, most such schools are in Dagestan – 175. Chechnya with 132 such schools goes right after the Moscow Region. In other regions of Russia, the numbers of such schools are much smaller.
