Activists disrupt Kocharyan's press conference

Today, in Yerevan, protesters have achieved cancellation of the press conference of Robert Kocharyan, after which they marched to the buildings of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) and the Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia. They demanded to dismiss the judge, who had freed the former president of Armenia.

Robert Kocharyan was accused of overthrowing the constitutional order in connection with the dispersal of protest actions in Yerevan on March 1-2, 2008. He was arrested on July 27 this year. On August 13, the Court of Appeal overturned the decision to place Robert Kocharyan behind bars, referring to his inviolability as a former president of Armenia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported today that protesters in Yerevan came to the building of the hotel, where Robert Kocharyan's press conference had been scheduled, demanding to cancel the decision to release him from custody.

Activists managed to break into the conference hall of the "Erebuni Plaza" Hotel. They chanted "Lifetime!" and "Robert, go!" and held posters with photos of 10 casualties of the events on March 1-2, 2008, in Yerevan.

Karen Tovmasyan, a protester, explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he disagrees with the court's decision to release Kocharyan from custody.

After disruption of the press conference, activists stated that their goal had been reached, and left the building, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The protesters, whose number, as they say, has grown up to a hundred, marched from the "Erebuni Plaza" Hotel to the GPO building and then to the building of the Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia, where they protested against Judge Alexander Azaryan, who had ruled to release Robert Kocharyan.
