Ship owner explains salary non-payment to sailors in Azov by US sanctions

The money for Russian sailors from the "Riroyl-5" ship on the hunger strike at the Azov port has been transferred, but it has not yet come because of the sanctions imposed on Russia, announced the spokesman for the Palmali Group, an owner of the ship.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 18, the Russian sailors of the foreign ship, detained at the port of Azov, went on a hunger strike demanding to cover the payments on salaries.

The Turkish Palmali Group, an owner of the ship, denies its guilt in the current situation. "It is not correct to rest responsibility for the issue upon the Palmali Group, since the company has run payroll calculations. We work with US banks. The delay occurred precisely for the above reason. The salaries for the sailors of the mentioned ship are transferred. We do not have similar problems in any of the European ports. Such problems arise in the ports of Russia, which is connected with the sanctions imposed on banks," announced Rauf Aliev, Vice President of the Palmali Group, on July 20.

The sailors continue to carry the watch and monitor the equipment, despite the hunger strike, one of the protestors reported. "The employer did not pay me at all, and I have to get 12,000 US dollars. Some of my colleagues have got parts of their salaries long ago, and they are to get the rest of 5000 or 6000 US dollars," said the hunger-striker as quoted by the "DonDay".
