Tourists tell about 12-hour-long queues at "Verkhni Lars" checkpoint

Over the past 24 hours, the waiting line of cars at the Russian-Georgian border checkpoint "Verkhni Lars" has grown; the waiting time is 8-12 hours, tourists have stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from early July drivers have been complaining about kilometre-long traffic jams on the Russian-Georgian border.

On July 17, the situation at the above checkpoint remained complicated; about 300 cars were standing in the waiting line; and the waiting time was 6 hours, the press service of the North-Ossetian Customs told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In their turn, tourists report that the waiting time for crossing the border from Russia was more than eight hours. One of the readers of the "Caucasian Knot" reported in the morning by means of the WhatsApp that "since yesterday, the waiting line at the 'Verkhni Lars' checkpoint has become even longer."

"Tonight, the waiting time at the Russian-Georgian checkpoint is more than 8 hours; we wait from 8:38 p.m. to 5:39 a.m. (on July 16-17)," says the message, received by the SMS-service of the "Caucasian Knot" via the Telegram Messenger.

According to social network users, over the past 24 hours, the waiting time reached 11-12 hours.

"We arrived at the border on July 17 at 2:00 a.m.; we stopped near Nizhny Lars; until almost five in the morning, the queue practically did not move. At 1:00 p.m., we were on the Georgian side. People are indignant; there are no toilets, only near the checkpoint," Svetlana Osipova wrote today in the group "Situation at the 'Verkhni Lars' (Cross Pass) checkpoint in the social network "VKontakte".
