'Targeted clean-ups' in Novye Atagi

Officers of law enforcement / security agencies have captured 13 young men, including adolescents, in 24 hours in Novye Atagi, Shali district. The "targeted clean-ups" were conducted in the village on the night and in the morning of 14 September.

"Several days ago, armed people in camouflage uniforms abducted a 15-year-old adolescent resident in the village. He was later released after torture with electricity and beating. So everything began after that. On the night of 14 September, the military men broke into several houses and brought away six young guys. The next morning, they came back and took another seven men. Two families each had two brothers taken away, and in one family all the five brothers were taken away," says a 44-year-old resident of Novye Atagi.

"All those detained are young guys. They have not been noticed doing something reprehensible. People say 'Kadyrovtsy' have taken them, but no one knows why they have been detained and where they are now," he said. "Later, they will probably be declared detained rebels, Wahhabis, terrorists, or someone else. Things like that have been practiced here, in Chechnya, for a long time already."
