Relatives of attack victim succeed in urging Karachay-Cherkessian investigators to react

A criminal case of an attack on Rustam Laipanov, wounded by unidentified people in Karachay-Cherkessia, was instituted against the background of a rally held by the victim's relatives who threatened the authorities of the republic to arrange mass protests.

The Laipanov brothers were attacked on July 14, but they managed to survive.

On July 16, the brothers' relatives went to a protest action. Participants of the rally held in front of the Karachay-Cherkessian government building demanded to detain members of the local criminal grouping, whom they considered guilty of the attack, the portal "On Kavkaz" reports and releases a video of the rally.

"There are troublemakers who keep the whole region in awe! [Law enforcers] do nothing to detain the attackers, and they calmly walk around while our children are in danger," said a woman participating in the protest action as quoted by the "On Kavkaz".

The protesters demanded a meeting with officials from the government and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) and threatened to arrange mass protests. However, no official came out to the protestors, the "Politika 09" reports.

At 6:27 p.m. Moscow time on July 16, the website of the Investigating Department for Karachay-Cherkessia of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reported the institution of a criminal investigation into the attack. According to the ICRF's Department for Karachay-Cherkessia, witnesses are being questioned, investigators are busy to reveal all the circumstances of the committed crime, a number of forensic examinations are scheduled, and measures are taken to search for suspects.
