Relatives of Armenian ex-president Serzh Sargsyan suspected of illegal enrichment

Levon Sargsyan, a brother of the former president of Armenia, while being Armenia's ambassador at large, failed to declare his large-scale bank deposits, the State Revenue Committee of Armenia has stated.

During a search, conducted in the house of Narek Sargsyan, Serzh Sargsyan's nephew, they found agreements on bank deposits worth about 6.8 million US dollars, the Committee has reported.

The deposits were registered to the names of Narek Sargsyan, his sister Ani Sargsyan and their father, Levon Sargsyan, a brother of the ex-president. In 2017, Levon took the post of the Armenia's ambassador at large and was obliged to declare his incomes, the "Sputnik-Armenia" reports.

The criminal case has been initiated on the articles of concealing property subject to be declared and illegal enrichment.

The search in Narek Sargsyan's house was conducted within the criminal case on intentional bankruptcy and tax evasion opened against the GLG Project Company. The shareholders of this company are Narek and Levon Sargsyan. 800 million drams (about 1.6 million US dollars) have already been returned to the state budget, the "Radio Azatutyun" reports with reference to the above State Revenue Committee.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Alexander Sargsyan, another Serzh Sargsyan's brother, was detained in central Yerevan on June 25 on suspicion of illegal arms carrying. On the same day, he was released.
