Police targeted in Kabardino-Balkaria

Two traffic police officers were shot dead in Nalchik this night. A source with the Nalchik Main Department of Internal Affairs says information was received at 2.55 am that unidentified persons opened fire on a VAZ-2106 police vehicle in which there were two traffic police officers. One of them opened fire in response. Both law enforcement agents were killed though. "Senior Sergeant Mokov and Lieutenant Dobagov died of sustained wounds on the spot," a representative of the Kabardino-Balkar prosecutor's office said.

The attackers took a Kalashnikov submachine gun and 30 cartridges from the police officers.

This is already the second time over the past forty-eight hours that police officers are killed in Kabardino-Balkaria, Interfax says.
