Women from Caucasus do not dare to defend their rights, experts assert

Victims of violence should first be mentally ready to change their lives and not be afraid to assert their rights. This was stated by experts who provided psychological support to women living in Northern Caucasus.

According to Elina Slavinskaya, a psychologist from Dagestan, women of the republic often appeal for psychological help; however, "the defining factor in the process of work is the client's willingness to change."

"In Dagestan, women often seek psychological help. We are able to help when a woman is ready for her inner changes, when she is ready to get out of the victim zone. If a woman does not want to change anything fundamentally, but just wants to complain, then she just comes to cry and complain," the psychologist told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In total, according to the expert, out of her clients addressing her for help, 30-40% come because of the problems associated with domestic violence.

In Dagestan, the problem of domestic violence is quite serious. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Svetlana Anokhina, the editor-in-chief of the online edition "Daptar.ru" on Dagestani women.

"Here we talk not only about beatings, but also about the problem of control. And not only parents and husband have the right of control over a woman, but also all her male relatives, including even her younger brothers," said Svetlana Anokhina.

According to her, many of the women seeking help are "afraid to go to the very end."
