Kabardino-Balkarian liquidators of Chernobyl disaster address letter to President Putin

The matter of the open letter prepared by the Chernobyl liquidators for publication in press concerns the payment of compensation for health damage provided for by the law.

The chairman of the Nalchik City Association of Chernobyl Liquidators and Invalids, Alik Khadzugov, told in his interview with the Caucasian Knot correspondent that problems of Chernobyl invalids rest on the failure of the Kabardino-Balkarian Ministry of Labor and Social Development to observe Paragraph 25 of Article 14 of the Law on Social Protection of Citizens Exposed to Radiation in Consequence of the Catastrophe at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

This law provides for the compensation of damage at the rate that must be determined starting from the pay at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. But the Ministry of Labor and Social Development of the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria prefers to pay out fixed compensation: 5,000 rubles to the disabled of the 1st group, 2,500 rubles to the disabled of the 2nd group, and 1,000 rubles to the disabled of the 3rd group.

In their letter to Putin, the Chernobyl liquidators also bring up a question concerning the indexation of compensation payments. The indexation is not made in Kabardino-Balkaria. People have to take it to court.
