In July, at least 118 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

In July 2012, at least 118 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus: 78 persons were killed and 40 more wounded. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot", based on its own materials and information from open sources.

The above figures cannot reflect the real number of victims with absolute precision. Not all the data gets into news reports; and it is not always possible to check how true the statements of law enforcement bodies are.

Dagestanis in the first place by the number of victims: at least 69 persons suffered there: 54 were killed and 15 more wounded.

Special operations against members of illegal armed formations (IAFs) and terror acts and attacks resulted in death of at least 10 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and other power agencies. Eight more employees were wounded. 43 suspected members of the armed underground were liquidated. Militants' attacks killed one civilian and wounded seven more.

In Ingushetia, 25 persons suffered: 10 were killed and 15 more wounded. Three law enforcers and one civilian perished; six suspected IAF members were killed. 12 law enforcers and other power agents, and three IAF members were wounded.

In Kabardino-Balkaria, 18 persons fell victim to the armed conflict: nine were killed and nine more wounded, including law enforcers: three of them perished and five more wounded. Six suspected IAF members were liquidated; besides, 4 civilians were wounded.

In Chechnya, 5 persons suffered: four perished and one more was wounded. One power agent and one civilian perished; two suspected IAF members were killed; and one law enforcer was wounded.

In Karachay-Cherkessia, one law enforcer was killed.

In July, North Ossetia and the Stavropol Territory had no victims of the armed conflict.

As counted by the "Caucasian Knot", in the second quarter of 2012, at least 355 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, 169 persons were killed and 186 more wounded.

Let us note here that by the outcomes of the 2010 census, the population of Dagestan made 2,910,249 persons, of Chechnya – 1,268,989 persons; of Ingushetia – 412,529, Kabardino-Balkaria – 859,939; Karachay-Cherkessia – 477,859; North Ossetia – 712,980; and the Stavropol Territory – 2,786,281 persons.
