12 supposed gunmen killed in Chechnya

According to law enforcement bodies of Chechnya, members of power ministries of the republic killed 12 participants of armed underground as a result of three special operations. The operations were carried out in the evening of August, 17, and at night of August, 18, in two districts of Chechnya and Grozny.

“Seven gunmen from brother Gakaev’s gang were killed in the wooded and mountainous area of Vedeno district. Mairbek Abdusalamov, Muslim Gakaev’s deputy, was among those killed. Besides, gangster Iskander Timarov was killed at the moment of his attempt to put up armed resistance near the settlement of Chishki, Grozny district of the republic.

It should be reminded that Hosein and Muslim Gakaev are natives of the settlement of Elistanzhi, Vedeno district of Chechnya. According to the data of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, Hosein Gakaev was one of the commanders of the Chechen gunmen who last August came into conflict with leader of North-Caucasian gunmen Dokku Umarov and refused to obey him. According to the Ministry of Interior Affairs and reports at the web-sites supporting North-Caucasian gunmen, in April, 2011, the conflict among the leaders of armed underground was settled.

One more large-scale special operation against the participants of armed underground was carried out at night of August, 18, in Lenin district of Grozny.
“Thanks to the information received from local residents, a gangsters’ group numbering four people was detected. The gangsters were blocked in a house and killed after they refused to lay down arms during a storm. A lot of arms, ammunition and explosives were impounded from the scene of the incident.

These gunmen supposedly were also members of Gakaev’s gangsters’ group and were sent to Grozny by him for committing acts of terror”, a law enforcement officer says.

The representative of the Ministry of Interior Affairs also declared that there were no losses among the participants of the special operations in Vedeno and Grozny districts of the republic and the town of Grozny.
