Red Cross to continue joint projects with Abkhazian Ministry of Education in 2004

It applies to the "World Is Around You..." Project, which has been carried out by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Abkhazian Ministry of Education in 137 school of the republic since 1997. Up to 5,000 pupils of the 5th and 6th forms are involved in it. In 2003, the ICRC started the second educational project for senior pupils titled "International Humanitarian Law". 2,500 pupils of the 9th form study various aspects of international humanitarian law (IHL) within the limits of such disciplines as history and social science. 11 workshops on IHL for 145 teachers were arranged by the ICRC jointly with the Ministry of Education in November and December 2003. The ICRC has been working in Abkhazia since 1992, providing help to victims of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict and promoting IHL.
