Khasu Batalov, detained in Moscow, suspected of links with Dokku Umarov

One of the four suspected militants detained in Moscow on February 15 - Khasu Batalov - had been on the federal search list as a potential commander of militants, subordinated to Dokku Umarov. He tried to go abroad with faked documents to another name.

"Four residents of our republic - Angela Batalova, 39; Ruslan Khaliev, 28; Khasan Nazhaev 26; and a 24-year-old young man, who had passport to the name of Ruslan Yusupov, were detained on February 15 at the Kiev Railway Station in Moscow. They were taken away from the train leaving for Chisinau (Moldova). The detainees were transported to the republic and have already given their confessions," said a source from the Chechen law enforcement bodies.

According to his story, it became clear that one of the detainees, who had passport to the name of Ruslan Yusupov, was in fact Khasu Batalov, who was on the federal search list for committing several serious crimes. "Batalov is the so-called 'Amir' of the Achkhoy-Martan District, who was appointed to this position by Dokku Umarov in December 2009. This leader tried, together with his two accomplices (Nazhaev and Khaliev) and his elder sister, to escape abroad," said the source.

"Khasan Nazhaev, who was detained with his commander, had earlier served his term for participating in illegal armed formations (IAFs)," said a law enforcement officer. "Batalov himself was involved in a number of serious crimes, in particular, in the attack on the militia checkpoint last December, when a law enforcer and a local resident were wounded."

The law enforcement bodies of the republic are also clarifying how the searched militant commander had managed to get passport to another person's name.

Khasu Batalov is also checked for possible involvement in the terror act at "Domodedovo" Airport.
