Political prisoner Musheg Sagatelyan released in Armenia

Today, Musheg Sagatelyan, an activist of the opposition and a member of the "Republic" Party, was let free from the criminal-correction institution "Nubarashen" after having served half of his sentence.

He was early relived by decision of the interdepartmental commission, because of serving half of his term.

Mr Sagatelyan - the head of the pre-election office of Levon Ter-Petrosyan in the city of Ani, a member of the "Republic" Party and a member of the combatant organization "Vogu portsutyun" (Spiritual Trial), a former head of the Department of Penitentiary Institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and a confidant of Levon Ter-Petrosyan at elections. He was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment under the following articles: Article 316 (violence against a power official) and Article 235 (illegal purchase, sale, storage, transportation or bearing of firearms). He was arrested on March 1, 2008.
