Azerbaijani Supreme Court to consider Fatullaev's case on November 11

Journalist Einullah Fatullaev, who is kept in the Baku SIZO (pre-trial prison), and his colleagues who support him at large have stopped their joint hunger strike, because the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan had fixed the date of the plenary session on Fatullaev's case.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Elchin Sadygov, Fatullaev's advocate, that the Plenum of the Supreme Court will consider his client's case on November 11.

Let us note here that on October 28, 13 international journalists' organizations sent letters to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CE), the Department for Enforcement of the ECtHR's Statements and CE's Directorate General of Human Rights and Legal Issues, in which they expressed their concern about non-fulfilment of the ECtHR's decisions regarding Fatullaev.

The authors of the appeal urge the CE's Committee to urgently consider the issue, given the "ignoring by Azerbaijan its commitment and Fatullaev's hunger strike."

The letter was signed by the heads of the organizations "Article 19", Committee to Protect Journalists, Freedom House, Fund "House on Human Rights", "Index of Censorship", Institute for War and Peace, International Federation of Journalists, International PEN-Club, Media Diversity Institute, "Legal Protection of Media", "Reporters Without Borders" and World Association of Newspapers and Publishers.

The Supreme Court of Azerbaijan has confirmed the appointment of the Plenum's sitting on November 11. However, a source in the office of the Supreme has neither confirmed nor denied the words of Fatullaev's advocate that the sitting will consider the journalist's case.
